Department of Basic Education: the lazy, incompetent way to do tech in schools

Spread the love

delphiLast year, the DBE announced that it would only examine the CAT curriculum using Microsoft Office,  and the IT curriculum using Delphi. Many of us were up in arms, seeing this correctly as effectively banning Free and Open Source Software in schools. In late 2014, there was a workshop at DBE in Pretoria, at which the FOSS community presented its perspective and asked for a reconsideration. It is clear from the letter that I received a couple of days ago that this was just a farce, a meeting to cool down the sentiment.

Well, FOSS community, it is time to get up in arms again. It is time for some civil society action to try again to overturn this absurd nonsensical, unimaginative decision.
